Info on Malaysia

Where’s the conference site exactly?

The conference will be held in Malaysia in 2014. Malaysia is divided into West Malaysia (also called peninsular Malaysia) and East Malaysia (consisting of the states of Sarawak and Sabah on Borneo island). The conference site is located in a state called Negri Sembilan in the west coast of West Malaysia.

The conference will be held at Port Dickson Methodist Centre (PDMC). However, participants will be hosted at two accommodation venues – PDMC and Golden Sands Baptist Assembly.

Conference venue: Port Dickson Methodist Centre

Money matters:
Do bring some money to buy souvenirs and snacks (for yourself or people back home). The accepted currency in Malaysia is the Malaysian Ringgit (MYR). Do convert your cash in your respective countries to be safe. There are also currency exchange services in Malaysia. But you might not have time to do this in Malaysia because of time constraint.

Power up your electrical devices:
The electrical plug outlet is British BS-1363 socket type (Type G). Voltage for electrical sockets used in Malaysia supplies 220-240 Volts. If the socket type and/or voltage differs from your country, do bring along your own ‘international adaptor’ if you have one.

Hot, cold or just nice?
The weather is mostly hot in Malaysia with sporadic rain. Do bring clothes that are appropriate. Jackets/sweaters may be needed only if you cannot stand the air-conditioning indoors. Do bring along a water bottle to keep yourself hydrated.

A word about documents:
Please also make sure that all your necessary travel documents (e.g. passports, tickets etc.) are prepared well in advance before you travel.

More information regarding your arrival will be given closer to the time of the conference. Do check with your IFES national movements regularly.
